The Four Most Common Causes of Impotence

Impotence and erectile dysfunction are all part of the same condition. Both relate to a man not being able to achieve an erection during sex. There are four basic causes that can contribute to impotence. They are as follows:

The first cause of impotence can be found in the central nervous system. This is where the doctor will check when you go and see him about impotence or erectile dysfunction. This is nothing to be frightened of. The doctor will simply want to rule out neurological conditions for your problem. Some neurological conditions that can contribute to impotence include stroke, multiple sclerosis. Parkinson\'s Disease, Alzheimer\'s Disease, and spinal cord injury. Once these have been ruled out as causes for impotence, there has to be other tests done for other conditions.

Damaged arteries is the second leading cause of impotence in the physical sense. If the arteries are clogged, this can be due to many different things. And clogged arteries will prevent blood flow to necessary areas. So this is something that has to be addressed.

If the arteries in the body are damaged, it can decrease blood flow to the pelvic region and stop the process of erection causing erectile dysfunction or impotence. There are many reasons why someone may have damaged arteries. They include heart disease caused by eating fatty foods or smoking.

The muscles in the penile area must be checked to make sure that they are built up and are working properly. Although the penis may be getting enough blood flow, if the muscle cannot support the organ, it may be a moot point. It is very important that this muscle be tested.

The level of nitric oxide that is contained in the penis can impede or help the blood flow to the penis. Without proper blood flow, the penis cannot become erect and stay erect. If there is a problem with getting blood flow to the penis, there are medications on the market that work wonders in this area.

Blood flow is the most common of all the of the problems with impotence. Lack of proper blood flow to the pelvic region can be caused by a number of different conditions, including high blood pressure.

Many men feel embarrassed to talk to their physician when it comes to impotence. This should not be the case. There is nothing to fear and the issues should be addressed. While decreased blood flow to the penis is the most common physical cause of impotence, there can be psychological issues at work as well. Either way, there are countless medications on the market that can help with impotence and allow you to become sexually active once again.
